Recognized for his lyrical style, Chicago based pianist John Erickson’s sound could be described as a blend of Bill Evans, Bruce Hornsby, and George Winston. John strives to find a perfect balance between warm melody and adventurous jazz improvisation. His five solo recordings range in style from contemplative solo piano originals to unique jazz trio treatments of of Christmas carols and hymns.
As a sideman, John toured seven years nation-wide with acclaimed jazz guitarist Nick Colionne, appearing at such revered festivals as Seabreeze, Berks, and JazzTrax Festivals in Big Bear and Catalina Island. He has also performed with other notable artists such as Steve Rodby, Gerald Albright, Steve Cole, Peter White, Stephanie Browning, Typhanie Monique, Buddy Fambro, Joy Eden Harrison and Dolly Varden.
In addition to performances as a solo artist and with his trio, John currently appears with the beloved folk group Sons of the Never Wrong, Bryan Lubeck's Acoustic Vineyard, the Steely Dan tribute band Bad Sneakers.
Erickson has performed in a number of the mid-west's top music venues including The City Winery, SPACE, Mayne Stage, The Old Town School of Folk Music, Fitzgeralds, 27 Live, Close Up 2, Reggie's, Pete Miller's, and The Green Mill.
Also an enthusiastic teacher, John is a private instructor at the highly regarded Old Town School of Music.
